Neighborhood Description:
Brooklyn Centre is roughly bounded by 1-71 to the North, the Metroparks Zoo in the Big Creek Valley to the South, Jennings Freeway to the East, and Fulton rd. to the West. The Township of Brooklyn was settled in 1812 along an American Indian trail and is the oldest settlement west of the Cuyahoga River. By 1894, when the village was annexed by the City of Cleveland, Brooklyn Centre had grown into a hamlet with merchandising, manufacturing, and a prominent residential housing stock. The variety of architectural styles in Brooklyn Centre include Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, and Colonial Revival and are comparable to the best surviving examples in Cleveland. A large portion of Brooklyn Centre is designated as a National Historic District boasting Archwood ave. which is also included in the Local Historic District.
