Description: |
| South Atlanta sits in the heart of Atlanta's Neighborhood Planning Unit -Y. The neighborhood is a mile south of Turner Field, home to the Atlanta Braves, and a mile north of Aaron’s (Lakewood) Amphitheatre. Within our geographic boundaries you will find the Ron Clark Academy, as well as the sixth largest towing company.
While our name might not be as readily known in the city as Sweet Auburn or the West End, we are a community steeped in history. South Atlanta strategically was mapped out and planned for African Americans by Clark University during the late 1800s. Men, women and children fled here to the campuses of Clark University and Gammon Theological Seminary for shelter during the Atlanta Race Riots of 1906. And we proudly share stories about how Langston Hughes, W.E.B. Dubois, Mary McLeod Bethune, and M.L.K. Junior visited our community. |
