Neighborhood Description:
The Hillside Neighborhood, also known as the Garden District, consists of a 14-block area. It stretches from 8th St. to 11th St. and falls within the boundaries of Federal St. and Hoosick St. It is almost exclusively a residential area containing approximately 300 households of mostly 19th century 2 and 3-family brick row houses. In addition to having easy access to the highway system, we are within walking distance to downtown Troy, the Waterfront Farmers\' Market, Revolution Hall, Samaritan Hospital, St. Mary\'s Hospital, Flanigan Square, Hedley Park Place and RPI. Greenery abounds, from the cool canopy of the tree-lined streets to the two community gardens, not to mention a number of residents\' private gardens. Troy\'s Garden District also has a panoramic view of downtown Troy and the Hudson River valley below. For the children we have two pocket parks, one which contains a large colorful mural designed and painted by the children and adults of our neighborhood. With its many avid gardeners, a very diverse population and its easy access to services, it is quickly becoming home to many advocates of the New Urbanism and Voluntary Simplicity movements.

Neighborhood Description:

The Eastside is the Troy neighborhood bounded on the north by Brunswick Road, on the west by South Troy (Hill St. to Spring Ave. to Pawling Ave.), and on the south and east to the Troy city line by the towns of North Greenbush and Brunswick, respectively.

Pawling Avenue (Route 66), the neighborhood’s “main street”, cuts diagonally through the area with its major intersections at Brunswick Road, Pinewoods Avenue, Spring Avenue, and Winter Street. The street, named after Colonel Albert Pawling, the first mayor of Troy, is a mix of residences, professional offices, and retail businesses as it continues into Albia.

The geographic center of the Eastside neighborhood is the Emma Willard School, since 1814 one of the nation’s leading schools for young women. The impressive Gothic architecture of the campus is a contrast to the many spacious two-story Victorian homes and attractive single family residences found throughout this suburban neighborhood.

Emma Willard School, Public School 16, Sacred Heart School, Susan Odell Taylor School, and Hope #7 Community Center, along with churches of several denominations, are important contributors to the quality of life in the Eastside neighborhood.

Both the Poestenkill River (south of Brunswick Road) and the Wynantskill River (south of Pawling Avenue) flow through the Eastside from rural areas of Rensselaer County, eventually emptying into the Hudson River.

Neighborhood Description:
The Sycaway-Eastside area covers from Frear Park South to Brunswick Road, from 10th Street East to the Troy City Line. The geographic center of this area is the Hoosick Street Corridor, and the RPI Campus Area. There are several schools in this area including Doyle Middle School, Troy High School, School 14, School 18, and Our Lady of Victory. There are also several churches of different denominations. This area on the City Council is represented by the District 3 Councilperson, and includes Election Districts 18 – 23. This area contains one of the biggest parks in the City, Frear Park, an 18 Hole Golf Course, with softball fields, tennis courts, etc.

Mostly known for its architecture and history, it is the most diverse district in the city, both economically and socially. Neighborhood Description:
Vanderheyden is a relatively new suburban-style neighborhood located in the southern area of Troy. It is bounded by the Wynantskill Creek on the west, Pawling Avenue on the east, and Campbell Avenue/Spring Avenue to the north. Building styles include Contemporary Colonial, Ranch, and Raised Ranch. Neighborhood residents are very friendly and are primarily young families with children. Properties are nicely landscaped with many old-growth trees having been retained by the builder, Galaraneau Builders, allowing residents to be close to nature. Since we are connected by the Wynantskill Creek to the Burden Pond preservation area we get a lot of wildlife passing through our neighborhood, including deer and turkeys. Nearby groceries or other easily accessed services include Cumberland Farms, Price Chopper, Hannaford, CVS, Stewarts, and miscellaneous restaurants. For a suburban setting within the city limits come to the Vanderheyden neighborhood.

Neighborhood Description:
The Osgood Neighborhood of Troy is bounded by two bodies of water: the Hudson River to the west and the Poestenkill creek to the north. It is bounded by the Williams Street alley on the east, and Van Buren Street to the south. Lovely bridges overlook the Poestenkill and add to the sense of natural space. Wide streets are graced by nineteenth century homes, many of which have been restored to their original beauty. Two-story buildings predominate, and many residents have ample yards where birds often sing. Summer weekends people are gardening or socializing on stoops and over backyard fences. Here you find a population diverse in age, lifestyle, and ethnicity. Residents enjoy the quality and convenience of life here; within a few minutes’ walk or drive are shops, galleries, schools, and restaurants. Osgood is named after the oldest continuously operating firehouse in Troy, a National Historic site, on the corner of Canal Avenue and Third Street. Saint Joseph’s Catholic church boasts one of the largest installations of Tiffany windows in the world; the Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Church is more than one hundred years old, just up the block from the New Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church. The Second Street Community Garden and the “Tot Lot” on Canal and Third Streets provide additional space to grow. The Osgood Neighborhood Association is an active group engaged with improving streets and alleys and with building relationships and attracting more owner-occupiers who want to renovate some of the older buildings that need TLC.
